 "A number of the Blues Super 12 rugby players have completed an NZIM /Auckland Blues Certificate in Practical Business Management.
The course itself was internally tailored by NZIM and myself, not only to meet the requirements of the players business needs, but to also address effective learning systems for those players with limited formal education.
The course took longer than originally envisaged to complete but has been a success, especially with respect to some of the players subsequent enrolment in tertiary courses and investigating more closely business ownership. The practical nature of the course has provided players with the confidence to develop this and even for those players who withdrew, it highlighted to them a need to head in different directions.
My direct contact with NZIM, has been great, particularly with respect to scheduling difficulties and player time management. The facilitators for each module were excellent, both in terms of their professional expertise and ability to work with individual players' needs.
The programme definitely has value, particularly with respect to practical learning, and I believe our future players can benefit from it."
